Dallas, TX (My Sportsbook) - The Dallas Mavericks and Golden State Warriors have completed a nine-player trade featuring Nick Van Exel and Antawn Jamison, a deal that was originally reported last Friday.
The Mavericks sent Van Exel, center/forward Evan Eschmeyer, point guard Avery Johnson and forwards Popeye Jones and Antoine Rigaudeau to Golden State in exchange for Jamison, forwards Danny Fortson and Chris Mills and guard Jiri Welsch.
The 31-year-old Van Exel averaged 12.5 points and 4.3 assists off the bench in Dallas last season, coming on strong in the playoffs when he led the Mavs to the Western Conference finals with an average of 19.5 points per game. In 10 NBA seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, Denver and Dallas, Van Exel has posted averages of 15.5 points and 7.2 assists over 723 games.
Jamison, 27, has spent his entire five-year NBA career with Golden State. He led the team in scoring last season with 22.2 points per game and finished tops with a .470 field goal percentage. In 336 games with the Warriors, he has posted averages of 20.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
Golden State gets a pair of veterans in Johnson and Jones, who have a combined 25 years of NBA experience.
Johnson began his 15-year pro career with Seattle in 1988. Since that season, he has averaged 8.5 points and 5.7 assists over 1,008 games with the SuperSonics, Denver, San Antonio, Houston, Golden State and Dallas. Last year with the Mavs, the 38-year-old guard averaged 3.3 points and 1.3 assists in 48 games.
The 33-year-old Jones averaged 2.0 points and 2.3 rebounds per game with the Mavs last season. In 10 NBA seasons, he has tallied 7.0 points and 7.5 rebounds over 530 games with Dallas, Toronto, Boston, Denver and Washington.
Eschmeyer played just 17 games last season, his second with the Mavericks. He started with the New Jersey Nets in 1999 and has posted 2.8 points and 3.9 rebounds over 153 games in his career.
Rigaudeau, a native of France, joined Dallas as a free agent in January and averaged 1.5 points in 11 games.
Mills, 33, played in just 21 games last season and averaged 4.8 points for the Warriors. The 22nd overall pick of the 1993 draft by Cleveland has averaged 11.2 points in 568 games with the Cavaliers, New York Knicks and Golden State.
Fortson played in just 17 games for the Warriors last year, averaging 3.5 points -- down considerably from his career average of 9.9 over 285 games with Denver, Boston and Golden State.
Welsch came off the bench for Golden State in his rookie season, scoring 1.6 points and averaging 6.3 minutes in 37 games.
