Oakland, CA (My Sportsbook) - The Golden State Warriors hired Keith Smart as an assistant coach on Tuesday. Smart led Indiana to a National Championship in 1987 by hitting the game- winning shot against Syracuse in the title game. More recently, he was named interim head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers in January after John Lucas was fired. The team was just 9-31 in their 40 remaining games under Smart. The 38-year-old Smart joins Eric Musselman's staff, which already includes Tom Sterner, Jim Bolyen and David Fizdale. "We are delighted to add Keith to our staff," Musselman said. "In his years as both a player and a coach, he has shown that he is a quality person, who also possesses a tremendous knowledge of the game." Smart spent nine seasons in the CBA and also played briefly in the NBA, appearing in two games for the San Antonio Spurs during the 1988-89 season. He has spent the last three seasons in Cleveland, where he held the position of assistant coach/director of player development before taking over for Lucas.
