Kristine Lilly and Lindsay Tarpley also scored for the U.S., which improved to 12-0-2 this year, including 10-0-2 against World Cup qualifiers. "I was pleased with the match. We went after them, played very hard, created a ton of chances, missed a few chances early, but then took care of the rest pretty well," U.S. coach Greg Ryan said. The United States, ranked No. 1 in the world by FIFA, is in Group B at the Cup with Korea, Nigeria and Sweden. New Zealand, which got its lone goal from Rebecca Smith on a penalty kick, won the Oceania Confederation qualifying tournament. New Zealand will be playing in its first Womens World Cup since 1991. It is in Group D with Brazil, China and Denmark. The United States plays Finland on Aug. 25 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., in its final match before the World Cup.
