Indianapolis, IN (My Sportsbook) - The
Indiana Pacers aren't worried about Reggie Miller's performance last season.
Coming off one of his least productive seasons ever, the soon-to-be 38-year- old shooting guard signed a multi-year contract with the team on Wednesday.
There was no press conference.
"It means Reggie will play his entire career for the Indiana Pacers," team president and CEO Donnie Walsh said. "Yet I'm still not limiting him to this contract alone."
Miller, the NBA's all-time leader in three-point field goals made (2,330), averaged just 12.6 points per game last season, the lowest output since his rookie campaign of 1987-88. But he was playing on an injured ankle.
"I think people will be surprised to see him play next year," Walsh continued. "Because the ankle problem he had last year has been resolved, Reggie will be in a better position to bring his game up to where it normally is."
That means a possible return to his career averages of 18.9 points and 3.1 rebounds over 1,243 games -- all with the Pacers.
"I am very excited," Miller said. "It is rare to start and finish your career with one organization. I am very blessed and honored."
A notable post-season performer throughout his career, Miller has raised his scoring average nearly four points per game in the playoffs. He is a five-time NBA All-Star and the Pacers' all-time leading scorer with 23,505 points. Miller also owns an Olympic gold medal, won as a member of the U.S. men's team in 1996.
