Sunrise, FL (My Sportsbook) - The Florida Panthers signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Todd Gill to a one-year contract on Wednesday. Financial terms were not disclosed. "We know that Todd Gill is an experienced leader," said Florida Panthers general manager Rick Dudley. "Todd is known as a very good guy in the locker room and is well known for working with younger players. He has a chance to become one of the veteran leaders of this team and we're going to give him that opportunity." Over his career, the 37-year-old has totaled 82 goals and 270 assists with 1,214 penalty minutes in 1,007 NHL games. Gill has notched 37 points with 193 penalty minutes in 103 playoff contests. Gill, a 6-foot, 180-pound Ontario native, played the majority of his 19-year NHL career with Toronto. He has also had stints with the San Jose Sharks, St. Louis Blues, Phoenix Coyotes, Detroit Red Wings, Colorado Avalanche and Chicago Blackhawks. Last season, Gill played in just five games for the Blackhawks, recording an assist with a plus-three rating.
