Auburn Hills, MI (My Sportsbook) - The
Detroit Pistons have traded veteran forward Cliff Robinson and guard Juan "Pepe" Sanchez to the
Golden State Warriors for guard Bob Sura.
The 36-year-old Robinson, who has two years and $10 million remaining on his contract, played in 81 games for Detroit last season and averaged 12.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists.
A 14-year veteran, Robinson has also played for Portland and Phoenix. He was originally drafted by the Trail Blazers in the second round (36th pick overall) of the 1989 NBA Draft.
Sanchez, 26, played nine games for the Pistons last season. He did not score a point and averaged 0.9 assists.
"We feel this is a tremendous addition to our team," said Warriors general manager Garry St. Jean. "Cliff Robinson was a starter for a team in the Eastern Conference finals last season and has been a winner his entire career. Additionally, he is an excellent defensive player and will provide some quality depth to our team."
Sura, 30, averaged 7.3 points and 3.2 assists in 55 games last season for the Warriors. He was selected out of Florida State by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round (17th pick overall) of the 1995 NBA Draft.
"We are excited to add Bob Sura to our roster," said Joe Dumars, president of basketball operations for the Pistons. "He's a hard-nosed defender and he is a player that can play both guard positions. He can penetrate and find the open man and he also has a nice touch from the perimeter."
It's been a busy week for the Warriors, who teamed up with the Mavericks to complete a nine-player trade on Monday. Dallas sent guards Nick Van Exel and Avery Johnson, center/forward Evan Eschmeyer, and forwards Popeye Jones and Antoine Rigaudeau to Golden State in exchange for forwards Antawn Jamison, Danny Fortson, Chris Mills and guard Jiri Welsch.
