Denver, CO (My Sportsbook) - The Florida Marlins placed outfielder Todd Hollandsworth and reliever Armando Almanza on the 15-day disabled list following Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Colorado Rockies. The 30-year-old Hollandsworth, whose placement is retroactive to August 14, is suffering from inflammation in his lower back. In 78 games this season, the 1996 NL Rookie of the Year is batting .250 with just three home runs and 18 RBI. Almanza was placed on the DL retroactive to August 20. In 51 relief appearances for the Marlins this season, Almanza is 4-5 with a 6.08 ERA. The 30-year-old lefty has tendinitis in his throwing shoulder. To fill the roster spots, the club recalled infielder Lenny Harris from Triple-A Albuquerque and agreed to terms with righthander Rick Helling, who was designated for assignment by Baltimore. Helling went 7-8 record with a 5.71 ERA in 24 starts this season. As for their 40-man rosters, Florida shifted righthanders Kevin Olsen and Tim Spooneybarger to the 60-day DL. Olsen has a concussion while Spooneybarger has tendinitis in his elbow.
