Hempstead, NY (My Sportsbook) - The New York Jets signed their first-round draft pick, cornerback Darrelle Revis, on Wednesday. Terms of the deal were not immediately available. Revis missed the first 19 days of the team's training camp while wrangling over the deal. The University of Pittsburgh cornerback, who was the 14th player chosen overall in April, was the first cornerback selected and was expected to take over the right cornerback position for the Jets. His prolonged absence may change those plans, however. "I think it was close to midnight last night or whatever time it was, we finally reached an agreement in principle," Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said. "We spent the better part of today just working through the nuances and the technicalities of a very complicated contract. That's why Darrelle wasn't able to practice [today]. We were just working through the process for the better part of the day into the night." In 35 games at Pitt, Revis recorded 129 tackles, eight interceptions, one forced fumble and two fumbled recoveries. The speedster also averaged 10.3 yards on 54 punt returns and scored two touchdowns. "I'm excited just to be in the NFL," said Revis. "It's a dream come true. I've been fighting for this job my whole life. Now it's here and I've got to do the best I can. My Uncle Sean [Gilbert] told me, 'Don't push it. You know how to play football, just go out and play football." With Revis' signing, only one first round holdout remains in the NFL, quarterback JaMarcus Russell. The top overall pick from LSU is not believed to be close to a deal with the Oakland Raiders.
