Boston, MA (My Sportsbook) - The
Boston Bruins put their eight-game unbeaten streak on the line tonight when they welcome the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim to the FleetCenter.
Boston, which is 6-0-2 since a season-opening loss to Minnesota, is on its longest streak since Nov. 19-Dec. 10, 1998 after a 7-2 pounding of host Washington on Wednesday night at the MCI Center. The Bruins have not reeled off a nine-game undefeated tear since Nov. 2-23, 1989 (8-0-1).
Against the Capitals, Brian Rolston paced things with a goal and two assists, as the B's received goals from seven different skaters. P.J. Axelsson, Rob Zamuner, Josef Stumpel, Bryan Berard, Joe Thornton and Glen Murray also scored.
In net it was rookie Tim Thomas getting the job done with 33 saves in his second NHL game. Thomas spelled former Duck Steve Shields, who enters tonight's action with a 3-0-2 record and 2.28 goals-against average and .921 save-percentage.
Rolston and Murray, meanwhile, both notched their fifth goals of the season, which ties them for the team lead. Thornton tops the club with 11 points (3g, 8a).
A victory tonight will give the Bruins 16 points on the season and equal the best 10-game start in their history. They have reached that mark on four other occasions (1929-30, 41-42, 76-77, 78-79).
Boston begins a brief homestand tonight, and will welcome the New York Rangers to town on Saturday.
Anaheim, meanwhile, hopes to find a win as it concludes a five-game road trip. The Ducks are 0-2-2 on the trek thus far, including a 2-2 tie with Montreal on Tuesday. Defenseman Keith Carney scored with 4:52 left in regulation to salvage the point for Anaheim, which also received a goal from Matt Cullen. Goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 22 saves and moved to 1-4-2.
Mike Babcock's crew continued it struggle to find the net Tuesday. In 10 games, the Mighty Ducks have scored more than two goals only three times. They are 1-3-2 on the road, with their lone victory coming in the season opener against St. Louis on October 10.
After tonight, Anaheim returns home for a brief homestand that begins Sunday versus San Jose.
Boston is 2-0-1 in the last three meetings between these clubs, and 4-1-1 in the last six. The Ducks have dropped two of their last three in Beantown.
