Toronto, Ontario (My Sportsbook) - The
Atlanta Thrashers once again seek their first victory of the season tonight when they visit the
Toronto Maple Leafs at Air Canada Centre.
Atlanta is 0-8-0-1 to start the campaign, with its only point coming courtesy of a 5-4 overtime loss to Florida on October 12. The Thrashers went their last nine games of last season without a victory, and haven't won since a 3-2 overtime triumph against Ottawa on March 23.
On Tuesday, Curt Fraser's club suffered its worst loss of the season, a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Los Angeles. The Thrashers spent much of the evening attempting to kill off 12 LA power plays, and were in turn outshot by a 41-25 margin. Milan Hnilicka allowed all four goals on 38 shots before yielding to backup Pasi Nurminen, who halted all three shots he faced in 13:14 of work.
Atlanta opens a four-game road trip tonight, and will visit Florida on Saturday. The swing also includes stops in Chicago and Buffalo.
Toronto, meanwhile, hopes to win its second straight after dropping three-in- a-row. On Monday the Maple Leafs notched a 5-2 victory over Anaheim, as Mats Sundin and Robert Reichel led the way with a goal and an assist apiece.
The match was the fourth installment of a seven-game homestand for Toronto. Pat Quinn's troops had been booed off the ice in each of the first three.
Alexander Mogilny, Nik Antropov and Alyn McCauley also scored, while Jonas Hoglund and Mikael Renberg added two assists each. Ed Belfour made 21 saves for his second win of the season (2-3-1).
Toronto, which is 2-6-1 since opening the year with a 6-0 pounding of Pittsburgh, has yet to win consecutive games. The Leafs, 2-5 on home ice, resume their current trek on Saturday in Montreal.
These teams split four games a season ago, with Toronto taking the final two meetings. The Thrashers have lost in two of their last three trips to the ACC.
