Atlanta, GA (My Sportsbook) - The Utah Jazz continue their season-opening road trip with a stop at Philips Arena to take on the Atlanta Hawks. Utah looked like and old team in its season-opening 100-75 setback to the New Orleans Hornets. Karl Malone scored 20 points and John Stockton chipped in with 14. The Jazz cut New Orleans' lead to 68-64 when Mark Jackson hit a running hook at the third-quarter buzzer. New Orleans was able to maintain the lead and outscored Utah 32-11 in the fourth quarter. "We haven't been able to sustain anything offensively," Utah coach Jerry Sloan lamented. Atlanta also dropped its season-opener. The Hawks traveled to New Jersey and were beaten by the defending Eastern Conference champions 104-95. Atlanta staged a late comeback bid with 13-point run led by Jason Terry that cut the Nets' lead to 90-86 with 4:03 to play. That's when Jason Kidd took over for New Jersey. Kidd, who is in the walk year of his contract, stole a pass from Terry and scored on a breakaway layup. Then he assisted on a basket by Kenyon Martin and added a driving layup to seal the victory for the Nets. Glenn Robinson finished with 34 points and 10 rebounds in his first regular-season game as a Hawk. Terry added 21, including two treys in the failed comeback bid. "A lot of teams are going to be prepared for them," Robinson said of the Nets. "A lot of teams are going to come out and try to beat these guys because they were the best team in the East. When you're on top, everybody is gunning to knock you down." The Jazz and Hawks split a pair of meetings last season with the home team prevailing both times. Utah has won 11 of the last 14 meetings overall, while the two teams have split the last six clashes in Atlanta. The all-time series is tied 35-35.
