Tucson, AZ (My Sportsbook) - Portland Trail Blazers guard Damon Stoudamire is expected to stand trial September 29 on drug charges. The trial will depend on the outcome of arguments over a motion to suppress evidence. Stoudamire's attorney, Michael Piccarreta, will seek to convince the Pima County Justice Court judge to suppress evidence from a search of Stoudamire on July 3 at Tucson International Airport. Stoudamire was first arrested for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia while boarding a plane. He had been fined $250,000 and was suspended from the team. The Portland guard waived a July 25 court appearance and entered an innocent plea. However, if convicted, Stoudamire could be sentenced to unsupervised probation and up to $2,500 in fines. He was charged with a misdemeanor because he was carrying less than two pounds. Airport screeners said he was carrying a little more than an ounce. For his career, Stoudamire has averaged 14.6 points, 6.8 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game, while also playing for the Toronto Raptors.
