San Francisco, CA (My Sportsbook) - The San Francisco Giants exercised their club option for the 2003 season on the contract for righthander Tim Worrell, while declining the 2003 contract option for right fielder Reggie Sanders. Meanwhile, third baseman David Bell declined his 2003 option to become a free agent. The National League Champions have the exclusive signing rights for both Bell and Sanders until November 11, but the players can be contacted by other teams. "I want to thank Tim, Reggie and David for everything that they gave to the Giants this past season," Giants general manager Brian Sabean said. "We would not have had nearly the same season we had without these three players and the professionalism they brought both on the field and to the clubhouse." Worrell posted a 2.25 ERA and tied for the NL lead with eight relief victories over a career-high and staff-best 80 appearances this season. The 34-year-old logged a 3-1 postseason record, including wins in Games 4 and 5 of San Francisco's NLCS victory over St. Louis. The 34-year-old Sanders played in a career-high 140 games as the Giants' starting right fielder, and hit .250 with 23 home runes and 85 RBI. Sanders had a key RBI single in the Giants' NLDS Game 5 victory at Atlanta and also homered in each of the first two World Series games. Bell was acquired by San Francisco from the Seattle Mariners on January 25, and led the Giants with 154 games, making starts at all four infield positions. The 29-year-old hit .261 with 20 home runs and 73 RBI, and finished third on the team with a .304 postseason average.
