Washington, DC (My Sportsbook) - World Cup newcomers France and South Korea will meet in their second first-round Group B match at RFK Stadium on Wednesday.
Both countries lost their World Cup openers to formidable and experienced opponents. France fell to Norway, 2-0, while South Korea was blanked by Brazil, 3-0.
France had many opportunities to score and upset the Norwegians, but had trouble finishing.
Marinette Pichon, Stephanie Mugneret-Beghe and Corinne Diacre lead the French attack.
"We started to dominate in my opinion," French coach Elisabeth Loisel said. "We just could not score on the few occasions we had."
Goalkeeper Celine Marty recorded eight saves for France and Loisel feels her club can build on the loss.
"If we continue to play like that, we stand a good chance of qualifying for the second stage," said Loisel.
Meanwhile in South Korea's camp, head coach Jong Goan An defended his team's performance claiming that they are under much pressure in their first World Cup.
"My players are under a lot of pressure and they did not perform to the best of their abilities," An said. "Against France, I think we will have a very good result."
An said of his players, "If we settle down, the team will play better."
