Atlanta, GA (My Sportsbook) - The
Atlanta Hawks re-signed restricted free agent guard Jason Terry Thursday. As per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.
Terry had signed an offer sheet with the Utah Jazz on September 11 and the Hawks elected to take the full 15 days to make their final decision.
"We are ecstatic to have Jason return as a member of the Hawks," said general manager Billy Knight. "He is a dynamic young player that represents all of the qualities we look for in our players and we look forward to his continued development."
The 6-2 guard said he was apprehensive about the future of the team, which was a factor in his decision to return to Atlanta.
However, AOL Time Warner announced a deal on Sept. 16 to sell the Hawks, the NHL's Atlanta Thrashers and operating rights to Philips Arena for $250 million to an eight-man ownership group including Boston businessman Steve Belkin.
Belkin has said that the contract agreement with Terry was reached with the cooperation of Time Warner officials.
Terry has spent his entire four-year NBA career with Atlanta. He averaged 17.2 points and a career-high 7.4 assists in 81 games last year. For his career, which spans 322 games, he has posted totals of 16.1 points, 5.6 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 steals.
The 26-year-old out of Arizona was the Hawks' third-leading scorer a season ago, trailing only Shareef Abdur-Rahim and Glenn Robinson, who will start in Philadelphia this season after a blockbuster, four-team deal over the summer that landed guard Terrell Brandon in Atlanta.
