Basel, Switzerland (My Sportsbook) - Seven players could make their debuts for the United States on Wednesday in a friendly against Switzerland, which has never lost to the Americans.
U.S. coach Bob Bradley selected a mostly European-based roster, including four players who haven't appeared in a match for the U.S. senior team. Goalie Tally Hall, defender Steve Purdy, midfielder Danny Szetela and forward Preston Zimmerman are all uncapped.
Three more MLS-based players, Toronto FC's Maurice Edu, and Real Salt Lake forward Robbie Findley and goalie Chris Seitz, are also looking to earn their first caps.
Benfica midfielder Freddy Adu, who is the youngest player on the team at 18, has made just one appearance for the U.S. senior team.
"We are continuing to develop our team as World Cup qualifying approaches, and this week (of training) gives us another good chance to integrate more players into our system," Bradley said.
Just how much any of the young players contribute is unknown, because Bradley still has plenty of more experienced options, although the average age of the 21-man roster is just 24.
Reading goalie Marcus Hahnemann is the oldest player on the team at 35, and midfielder Eddie Lewis, who plays for Derby County, is the most experienced with 73 appearances for the United States.
Bradley made two adjustments to the roster this week, adding striker Taylor Twellman of New England and goalie Brad Guzan of CD Chivas USA.
The United States is 0-3-3 all-time against Switzerland, which became the first team to be eliminated from a World Cup without allowing a goal in 2006.
The Swiss won Group G of the '06 Cup, finishing ahead of eventual runners-up France, but fell in the knockout round in penalty kicks after a 0-0 draw in regulation time against the Ukraine.
Switzerland tuned up for the match with a 3-1 win over Austria on Oct. 13. FC Basel striker Marco Streller had two goals and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Tanquillo Barnetta had three assists in the win.
The Swiss are 4-3-1 this year, including a 2-1 win over the Netherlands and a 1-1 draw with Argentina.
Switzerland is ranked 42nd by FIFA and the United States is 18th.
