Oakland, CA (My Sportsbook) - The Seattle SuperSonics try for their first road win of the season when they travel to Oakland to take on the
Golden State Warriors.
Seattle opened its season with an 86-73 victory over the Phoenix Suns at KeyArena on Wednesday night. Brent Barry scored eight of his 25 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Sonics to victory.
"The aggressive play he showed, especially in the second half, is something that he's capable of, and we're going to need him to do that on a consistent basis this season," Sonics coach Nate McMillan said.
Barry shot 9-of-12 from the floor, including 5-of-6 from behind the arc.
"I've been working hard after practice, getting my shot and my stroke together, to start off the season shooting the ball well," Barry said.
Golden State shocked the world with its 106-98 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night. It was Eric Musselman's head coaching debut, and his players made it a happy occasion. Antawn Jamison scored 36 points on 14-of-25 shooting and Jason Richardson added 22 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Both players slammed down several thunderous jams, as did Adonal Foyle, who came off the bench to score 14 points and grab seven rebounds.
"We believe in ourselves," Jamison said. "It's this us-against-the-world mentality. People don't believe in us. We did what we were supposed to do, but don't get me wrong, there are still 81 games to go."
The task at hand for the rookie coach is a formidable one: to take a core group of guys that are very young and get them to compete in the NBA's most competitive division and conference. Nothing can be tougher than implementing competitive division and conference. Nothing can be tougher than implementing a new system with inexperienced players.
Musselman made just one promise: that his team will play hard for 48 minutes over 82 games. So far, after just a single contest, he's kept his word.
Seattle has dominated the recent history of this series, winning 12 straight and 14 of the last 15 meetings. The Sonics have won 37 of the last 42 meetings and have a 111-78 edge in the all-time matchup.
