Atlanta, GA (My Sportsbook) -
Atlanta Thrashers forward Dan Snyder is still in critical condition with a fractured skull at Atlanta's Grady Hospital.
Snyder, who underwent a two-hour surgery for the skull fracture early Tuesday morning, along with teammate Dany Heatley, who is in stable condition, were injured in a one-car accident Monday night in Atlanta.
Heatley, who received an update of numerous tests on Friday, is slated to have surgery on Saturday to repair his fractured jaw at St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta.
Also on Friday, Heatley underwent further tests on his right knee in which an MRI confirmed that he has a complete tear in his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL), in addition to a torn lateral meniscus. He will undergo surgery within the next 7-10 days to repair all three injuries to his right knee and will be sidelined indefinitely.
An MRI on Heatley's shoulder also showed limited nerve damage to some muscles. However, there was no injury to the bones, ligaments or rotator cuff and that surgery is not required.
The 25-year-old Snyder is still unconscious but there wasn't any bleeding into the brain.
"The doctors are conducting a lot of measurements on his brain and all levels at this time are in a normal range," said the Snyder family. "His condition seems to improve every day and we thank you again for your continued support and prayers."
Heatley, who suffered a broken jaw, a minor concussion, a contusion on his lung and a bruised kidney, was charged Tuesday with reckless driving for veering off a road and slamming his vehicle into a wall at an estimated speed of 80 m.p.h.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the 22-year-old Heatley posted a $50,000 bond, set during a hearing involving a prosecutor and Heatley's attorney. Heatley is scheduled to be in traffic court on October 10 to face charges of serious injury by vehicle, a felony; reckless driving, driving too fast for conditions and striking a fixed object, all misdemeanors.
Heatley was also charged with driving on the wrong side of the road, for which an additional $200 bond was levied. He took a blood-alcohol test as well, but results will not be available for weeks
The NHL's Calder Trophy winner as the league's best rookie in 2001-02, Heatley led the Thrashers with 41 goals and 89 points in 77 games in 2002-03. He also scored four goals on his way to being picked as MVP of the 2003 All- Star Game.
Snyder, who signed with the Thrashers in July 1999, finished with 10 goals and four assists in 36 contests last season for Atlanta.
