Sunrise, FL (My Sportsbook) - The Boston Bruins traded goaltender Steve Shields to the Florida Panthers on Sunday in exchange for future considerations. The 31-year-old Shields posted a 12-13-9 record with a 2.76 goals-against- average in 36 games for Boston last season. The netminder, however, became expandable when Boston acquired Felix Potvin right before the beginning of training camp. Youngster Andrew Raycroft will serve as Potvin's backup for the Bruins. Shields, meanwhile, will be Roberto Luongo's backup in Florida. "Steve has been and continues to be a solid NHL goaltender," Florida General Manager Rick Dudley explained. "He's known as a good guy and he's been through a lot of different landscapes, including pressure situations in the playoffs. We think he's a great fit with Roberto Luongo in goal." Shields has played in 225 NHL games during his eight-year career with Buffalo, San Jose, Anaheim and Boston. He owns a 76-96-38 record with a 2.59 gaa with 10 shutouts.
