Atlanta, GA (My Sportsbook) - Atlanta Thrashers forward Dany Heatley issued a statement Tuesday regarding the accident that killed teammate Dan Snyder and severely injured Heatley. "I am deeply saddened and very sorry over the loss of my close friend and teammate, Dan Snyder. On Friday, my family and I were able to travel with my Thrashers teammates to Elmira, Ontario to mourn along with Dan's family and friends, as well as the entire Elmira community. "The accident has taken a huge emotional toll on me. At this time, my focus is on the Snyder family and my rehabilitation from the injuries that I sustained in the accident. "I am working hard with my rehabilitation and will return to the ice as soon as is medically possible. I will continue to support the Snyder family and my team in every possible way." Snyder died on October 5 in an Atlanta hospital at the age of 25 due to head trauma. He suffered a fractured skull and underwent a two-hour surgery after being thrown 30 feet from Heatley's Ferrari, but never emerged from his coma. Heatley suffered a broken jaw, a minor concussion, a contusion on his lung and a bruised kidney. He also underwent successful surgery to repair complete tears of the medial collateral ligament and the anterior cruciate ligament, and to repair the lateral meniscus in his right knee. Heatley is expected back in the Thrashers' lineup at some point this season.
