Rotterdam, Netherlands (My Sportsbook) - Ajax is still on top of the Dutch Eredivisie standings after Sunday's 2-2 draw with second-place Feyenoord at De Kuip Stadion.
The two clubs entered the match level on points, with Ajax holding the edge in goal differential, and after Sunday's result, the table will stay the same. PSV Eindhoven had a chance to move into the top spot on Sunday with a win against AZ Alkmaar, but they too were held to a draw and remain one point back of the top two sides.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst had Feyenoord in front after 29 minutes when he got the best of Ajax keeper Maarten Stekelenburg in a one-on-one situation, but Ajax came out strong in the second half and scored twice to surge ahead.
Dennis Rommedahl equalized for the visitors eight minutes after the break with a strong shot that Feyenoord keeper Henk Timmer had no chance at stopping.
It took 14 minutes for Ajax to move in front as Siem de Jong got on the other end of a cross from Johnny Heitinga to score from eight yards, but the home side responded in the 74th minute to earn a share of the points.
Ajax defender Hedwiges Maduro was whistled for bringing down Feyenoord's Michael Mols inside the area. Theo Lucius was called upon to take the spot kick, but although Stekelenburg made the initial stop, he could not keep the rebound out off the foot of Jonathan De Guzman.
AZ has had a bad start to the season after a good campaign last year but they are starting to show signs of turning things around. The club took a 1-0 lead against PSV with a goal from Ferreira Ari in the 36th minute, but Jefferson Farfan notched his second goal of the year in the 59th to give his club a point.
In Sunday's other Eredivisie contests, Heerenveen downed Vitesse 1-0 on a goal from Michael Bradley in the 50th minute to move into fourth place, while Roda pounded Groningen 5-1 as Andres Oper scored two times.
