New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - The NBA announced Wednesday that Golden State Warriors guard/forward Jason Richardson has been suspended without pay for three games after being convicted of domestic violence, in violation of the law of the State of Michigan. Richardson was convicted in late August of a misdemeanor domestic violence charge that stemmed from an altercation at the home of a former girlfriend. The 22-year-old Richardson was accused of pushing his ex-girlfriend, Roshonda Jacqmain, so hard that the woman fell and banged her head against a wall, resulting in a hole in the wall. Richardson was at the woman's apartment on April 29 to pick up their three- year-old daughter. He claimed he was acting in self defense. "This is the result of an extremely personal matter. I deeply regret being involved in any situation that results in the embarrassment of my family, friends and fans, the Golden State Warriors and the NBA," Richardson said in a statement. "I fully understand the seriousness of the implications and I accept the penalty imposed by the Commissioner (David Stern). I'm glad to have these issues addressed and behind me." The suspension begins with Golden State's first game of the season on October 29 against Dallas. Richardson started all 82 games last season and averaged 15.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists per contest. A Michigan State product, Richardson was drafted by the Warriors in the first round (fifth overall) of the 2001 NBA Draft.
