San Jose, CA (My Sportsbook) - Devin Setoguchi and Joe Thornton each scored a pair of goals as the San Jose Sharks handled the Phoenix Coyotes, 5-0, at HP Pavilion.
Thornton also had an assist, and Patrick Marleau had a pair of assists to help San Jose beat Phoenix for the second game in a row. Evgeni Nabokov made 25 saves in his second shutout of the year and 36th of his career.
Phoenix continued its up-and-down season, losing its second straight game after winning two in a row. Mikael Tellqvist made 23 saves in the loss, the second of three straight games against San Jose.
The teams played Saturday, with San Jose winning 4-1, and Jeremy Roenick netting his 500th career goal. There were no milestones on Monday, but the game's outcome was much of the same.
San Jose had a chance to get on the board 8:22 into the game, when Joe Pavelski missed on a penalty shot. But 10 minutes later, Mike Grier got the Sharks on the board.
Grier and Torrey Mitchell engaged in a give-and-go the length of the ice, with Mitchell dishing the puck to Grier near the right circle. Grier wristed it past Tellqvist for a 1-0 lead.
Almost 19 minutes through the second period, Thornton put San Jose up two after skating through the right circle, and getting a feed from Marleau. Thornton's initial shot on net was blocked, but he was persistent and his second attempt found the back of the net.
Four minutes into the third, Setoguchi scored his first on an incredible shot. He skated around a Coyotes defender in the right circle, got the puck, and wristed a shot on net as he fell down. Amazingly, it snuck in on the top shelf for a 3-0 San Jose lead, 4:06 into the final period.
Setoguchi struck again more than 11 minutes later with another good move. Jonathan Cheechoo found Setoguchi flying into the slot, and Setoguchi received the puck just before he got to the crease. Setoguchi made a quick pivot right, and slid the puck over the goal line.
Thornton added his team-leading eighth goal of the season with 3:27 left on a 5-on-3 power play. He camped out in the right circle until Sandis Ozolinsh fed him the puck, which he wristed in from the right circle for the fifth goal.
