Coral Springs, FL (My Sportsbook) - Former major league pitcher Rick Rhoden and Scott Masingill opened with rounds of four-under-par 68 Tuesday to share the lead after the opening round of the Champions Tour National Qualifying Tournament TPC at Eagle Trace. They hold a one-stroke lead over Chris Dachisen, Perry Arthur, Thomas E. Jones and Robert Thompson. Rhoden struggled on the front nine with a lone bogey and eight pars. Around the turn, he caught fire. The 54 year old, who played for four major league teams, eagled the par-five 10th. Rhoden followed with birdies on the next two holes to move to minus- three. Rhoden wrapped birdies on 15 and 17 around a bogey on 16. Masingill played the back nine first and posted three birdies and two bogeys over his first eight holes. He parred four straight around the turn, before climbing the leaderboard. Masingill reeled off three birdies in a four-hole stretch from the fourth to jump to minus-four. He parred his final two holes to share lead. Kirk Hanefeld, who played in 11 Champions Tour events in 2007 with his best finish a tie for 21st, and Canadian Tour regular Craig Marseilles are among six players tied for seventh at two-under-par 70. They were joined there by Jim Chancey, Keith Gockenbach, Chris Tucker and Ralph West. There are 13 more players including -- Rick Karbowski, Mitch Adcock and Jack Ferenz -- tied for 13th at minus-one.
