Atlanta, GA (My Sportsbook) - Ilya Kovalchuk scored just 25 seconds into overtime, lifting the Atlanta Thrashers over the Florida Panthers, 3-2, at Philips Arena.

Marian Hossa scored with just three seconds left in regulation to force OT for the Thrashers, who have won four of five. Todd White also scored for Atlanta, which has won both games this season against the Panthers.

Johan Hedberg ended with 19 saves for the Thrashers, who won the game before Florida had a chance to get going in the extra session.

With less than 30 seconds gone in overtime, Kovalchuk beat Florida goaltender Craig Anderson with a one-timer from the top of the right faceoff circle.

White had the lone assist on the goal.

Anderson ended with 30 saves for Florida, which has lost four straight. Ville Peltonen and David Booth both scored for the Panthers, who blew a lead late in the contest.

Down 2-1 and with a 6-on-4 advantage thanks to a power play and the goaltender being pulled, the Thrashers forced overtime when Hossa scored on a wrister from inside the right faceoff circle with just three seconds left in regulation.

"His (Hossa's) goal was very important because if he doesn't score we're done," said Kovalchuk. "So it was a great play by him. I think he did it on purpose too, he's a tricking player. You need to be lucky to be good, so we were lucky."

Atlanta ended just 1-for-5 on the power play.

"It was disappointing because we put out a strong effort for a road game," said Florida head coach Jacques Martin. "I thought we battled hard. It was bad luck for sure from the stand point that the puck went in. We should have won the game 2-1."

Peltonen gave Florida the lead with 7:16 left in the first period when he scored from the crease, but the Thrashers eventually tied the game in the second period.

With just 31 second elapsed in the frame, White beat Anderson five-hole after getting to the puck in a scrum in front of the net.

Florida went ahead with 4:49 left in regulation when Booth beat Hedberg with a slapper from the top of the left circle.

Game Notes

Florida didn't score on its lone power play chance...Anderson has not won in net since beating Atlanta March 28, 2007 in a shootout. He fell to 0-3 this season.
