Milwaukee, WI (My Sportsbook) - The
Milwaukee Bucks signed swingman Desmond Mason to a three-year contact extension on Monday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Desmond Mason possesses a combination of tremendous talent and impeccable character, and we're thrilled to reach this agreement with him," general manager Larry Harris was quoted as saying on the Bucks' website. "His tireless work ethic, fierce determination and competitive drive are immeasurable to a young team like ours both on and off the floor."
The 26-year-old Mason, who was acquired along with Gary Payton from Seattle in February for Ray Allen, Kevin Ollie, Ronald Murray and draft picks, averaged 14.3 points and 6.5 rebounds in 80 games for the Bucks and SuperSonics in 2002-03. Payton is no longer with the franchise, as the point guard signed with the Lakers in the offseason.
"Desmond is a talented and extremely hard-working player who will be part of our team for many years to come," head coach Terry Porter was quoted as saying on the Bucks' website. "He brings his best to the floor every time he goes out there, and he demands the same of his team."
Originally selected out of Oklahoma State by Seattle in the first round (17th pick overall) of the 2000 NBA Draft, Mason has played in 233 games over his career. He owns career-averages of 10.9 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists.
"This is a very happy day for me and my family," Mason was quoted as saying on the Bucks' website. "I'm thankful to Senator Kohl for his commitment to me and to this organization. I look forward to many great years of working with Larry (Harris), Terry (Porter) and my teammates as we work toward one common goal - an NBA title."
Milwaukee opens the 2003-04 NBA season on Wednesday at Minnesota.
