Tampa Bay Lightning will aim for their sixth consecutive victory tonight, when they visit the
Atlanta Thrashers at Philips Arena.
The Lightning have battered the opposition during their hot streak, winning the five games by a combined score of 24-7. Tampa Bay started the season with a disappointing 5-8-1 record before turning things around with the recent tear.
Tampa Bay's latest triumph came Friday night against the visiting Washington Capitals. Brad Richards, Vincent Lecavalier and Martin St. Louis each tallied a goal and two assists to lead the Bolts to an easy 5-2 victory.
Jan Hlavac and Paul Ranger each scored a goal while Johan Holmqvist stopped 28 shots for the Lightning, whose five-game winning streak has come on the heels of a six-game slide.
Lecavalier currently has a seven-game points streak intact and has registered multiple points in each game during the run. Overall, he has posted six goals and 13 assists on the tear.
St. Louis has also notched a point in seven straight games and has five markers and nine assists in the stretch.
Meanwhile, the Thrashers have won back-to-back tests and five of their last six outings. They were in action Friday evening and posted a shutout victory at Carolina.
Johan Hedberg posted 31 saves to record his 11th career shutout as the Thrashers defeated the Hurricanes, 3-0, at RBC Center.
Marian Hossa had two goals and an assist while Ilya Kovalchuk added a goal and an assist for the Thrashers.
Kovalchuk has 15 points (10 goals, 5 assists) in his last seven games. The Russian winger leads Atlanta in every major offensive category this season with 16 goals, 11 assists and 27 points. Kovalchuk also leads the NHL in goals scored.
Tampa Bay is 2-1 against the Thrashers this season, but tonight's test is the first meeting in Atlanta. The Lightning have taken three of the last five tilts in this series, but have been defeated in two of their previous three trips to Philips Arena.
The Thrashers are 3-4-0 as the host team this season, while Tampa Bay is just 2-7-0 on the road.
