Boston, MA (My Sportsbook) - Two nights after having their eight-game unbeaten streak snapped, the
Boston Bruins try to get back on track when they welcome the
New York Rangers to the FleetCenter.
Boston, which was 6-0-2 during its tear, dropped a 4-1 decision to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim on Thursday night. Jozef Stumpel tied the game at 1-1 6:28 into the second period, but the Bruins were burned by a hat trick off the stick of Paul Kariya. Anaheim struck for three goals on nine shots in the second stanza to grab a 3-1 advantage after 40 minutes.
Boston was 0-for-7 on the power play and is just 5-for-47 this season with the man advantage. Goaltender Steve Shields made 19 saves against his former team, after going unbeaten in his first five decisions (3-0-2).
Boston takes to the road briefly after tonight, and will visit Detroit next Thursday.
New York, meanwhile, had a two-game winning streak snapped in Tampa on Wednesday and is 2-4-2 in its last eight outings. Against the Lightning, the Blueshirts suffered a 3-0 loss to Nikolai Khabibulin and Co. The Bulin Wall stymied the Rangers with 24 saves as they were shut out for the second time this season.
On the milestone watch, New York captain Mark Messier played in his 1,614th NHL game, and is one short of tying Larry Murphy for second place on the all- time list. Hall of Famer Gordie Howe holds the record with 1,767 appearances.
The Rangers head home after tonight, and will open a three-game Madison Square Garden set on Sunday against St. Louis. Edmonton and Calgary also visit during the stand.
New York went 3-1 against Boston last season, and is 5-4-1 in the last 10 meetings overall. The Blueshirts have won two straight at the FleetCenter.
