Magic begin Johnny Davis era in Phoenix

Phoenix, AZ (My Sportsbook) - The Orlando Magic begin the Johnny Davis era tonight, as they land in Phoenix to face the Suns at America West Arena.

The Magic fired head coach Doc Rivers on Tuesday and named Davis as his replacement. The move came after Monday's loss to Utah, which dropped the team to 1-10.

Davis does have previous head coaching experience. He went 22-60 with the Philadelphia 76ers during the 1996-97 campaign in his only year with the franchise.

Orlando dropped a 90-88 decision to the Jazz at the Delta Center on Monday despite a game-high 29 points from Tracy McGrady. It was the 10th straight loss for the Magic after they won their season-opener against New York in overtime.

Juwan Howard scored 21 points for Orlando, but Carlos Arroyo hit a pair of free throws with 29.4 seconds remaining to give Utah a 90-88 lead with 29 seconds left.

McGrady missed a jumper with 16 seconds left, but this time Arroyo missed a pair of free throws to give the Magic another chance. Derrick Dial's jumper was off the mark, but Utah turned the ball over with one second remaining to give the Magic yet another opportunity. McGrady's desperation shot missed everything and the Jazz escaped with the win.

Phoenix halted a three-game losing streak Tuesday with a 95-82 win over the Chicago Bulls in the second of a four-game homestand.

Amare Stoudemire collected 21 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Suns. Shawn Marion added 19 points as six Phoenix players finished in double figures. Zarko Cabarkapa contributed a career-high 14 points and Stephon Marbury had 10 points and 12 assists for the Suns.

Joe Johnson added 11 points in the win for Phoenix, while Jake Voskuhl had 12.

Phoenix has won two straight and eight of the last 11 meetings with the Magic. The Suns have taken four of the last six meetings in Arizona.

The Magic are 1-4 on the road this season and have yet to pick up a win in six matchups with Western Conference teams.

Phoenix is 3-3 at home and holds a 2-2 record against the Eastern Conference.
