Atlanta, GA (My Sportsbook) - Slava Kozlov scored the game-winner in the shootout as the Atlanta Thrashers downed the New York Islanders, 4-3, at Philips Arena.

Kozlov was the second shooter and he skated down the ice, went to the left and waited for Rick DiPietro to commit before lifting the puck over the prone goaltender.

Kari Lehtonen then made a right pad save on a wrist shot from Miroslav Satan before Ilya Kovalchuk sealed the win with a shot between the pads of DiPietro.

Kovalchuk also had a goal in regulation while Marian Hossa added a goal and an assist for the Thrashers, who have won two of their last three. Lehtonen finished the game with 30 saves.

"I thought it was an interseting game," said Atlanta coach Don Waddell. "There was no flow cause there were so many penalties. The good thing is that we came out with the two points that we wanted."

Mike Comrie, Trent Hunter and Mike Sillinger each had a goal for the Islanders, who have dropped four straight. DiPietro made 21 saves in the contest.

"Our power play wasn't very good," said Islanders coach Ted Nolan. "We have to get some confidence on the power play. This is a strong-willed team. We are never disppointed in our effort."

The Islanders got the only goal of the first period as Comrie grabbed a rebound in the slot, dragged the puck to the right and snapped a wrister through a screen halfway through the frame.

DiPietro made six saves and New York killed off four Atlanta power plays in the first period.

The Thrashers, though, scored three straight goals in the second period to take the lead.

Skating shorthanded, Eric Perrin had the puck in the neutral zone and left a drop pass for Hossa, who shrugged off a defender and skated to the left circle where his shot beat DiPietro on the short side 7:06 in.

Atlanta then took the lead as Hossa flicked a pass from the right boards to the slot where Kovalchuk's one-timer beat DiPietro under the glove at the 11:34 mark.

The Thrashers got another shorthanded goal, this time from Pascal Dupuis with 4:24 left in the second for a 3-1 lead.

New York got a much needed goal with just 18.9 left in the second as Andy Sutton's shot from the left point was deflected into the net by Sillinger to make it a 3-2 contest.

The Islanders tied the game on the power play in the third. With Ken Klee in the box for tripping, Hunter uncorked a shot from the left point that went through a screen and over the right shoulder of Lehtonen at the 7:32 mark.
