St. Paul, MN (My Sportsbook) - The
Dallas Stars try to stay on the winning track this evening when they travel to Minnesota to face the Wild at the Xcel Energy Center.
On Monday, Mike Modano led the way with a goal and two assists, as the Stars rolled to a 5-2 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes at the AmericanAirlines Center. Jason Arnott, Steve Ott, Jere Lehtinen and Stu Barnes also scored for Dallas, which won for just the second time in its last 10 (2-6-2).
It was a breakout game of sorts for Modano, who entered the contest with just five goals and six assists, while playing to a minus-15 in 21 games. His 28 penalty minutes are also two shy of the 30 he had all of last season.
Marty Turco finished with 20 saves in the victory, as the Stars improved to 6-0-1 when leading after two periods this season and have a 45-game unbeaten streak with such a lead dating back to October 20, 2002 (41-0-4).
In a scary moment, Bill Guerin left the game in the first period after being cut on his lower lip by the skate of Dan Cleary as he fell to the ice. He returned for one shift in the second, but left for the remainder of the game as the blood flow from his lip could not be contained.
Guerin, who leads Dallas with 12 goals and 20 points, has nine goals and 17 points in his last 13 games. He is expected to play tonight, but will wear a jaw protector.
Dallas is now unbeaten in the Pacific Division with a 3-0-2 mark and trails the Los Angeles Kings by a point for the top spot.
The Stars are 2-7-1 away from home this season.
Minnesota, meanwhile, has dropped its last two games after falling 5-2 to the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday.
Richard Park and Alexandre Daigle found the back of the net for Minnesota, which is just 2-4-1 in its last seven. Daigle, though, has recorded a goal in three consecutive games and leads the Wild with eight markers this season.
Dwayne Roloson, who started for the sixth time in eight tilts, stopped 28- of-33 shots in the loss.
Minnesota, which will be playing the second part of a four-game homestand, is 4-5-2 at home this season.
Dallas defeated the Wild earlier in the season, but is just 2-4-1 in its last seven meetings with Minnesota. The Stars have also dropped two straight in their former home state.
