(My Sportsbook) - The
New York Rangers will try to avoid losing three in a row for the first time since October when they visit the
Atlanta Thrashers tonight at Philips Arena.
The Rangers were slammed, 6-2, by the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday. Nik Antropov registered his second career hat trick, as Toronto routed New York at Madison Square Garden. Including a 4-0 loss to Carolina in their previous game, the Rangers were outscored, 10-2, in a brief two-game homestand.
Daniel Girardi and Fedor Tyutin scored for the Rangers in the loss to Toronto and Scott Gomez and Chris Drury each recorded two assists.
Henrik Lundqvist yielded four goals on only 10 shots and was replaced by Steve Valiquette at the start of the third period. Valiquette finished the game by allowing a pair of goals on six chances.
New York hasn't dropped three consecutive contests since a four-game slide from October 13-23.
The Rangers are 6-5-2 as the visiting team this season, but have won six of their last seven road tilts.
The Thrashers have won two of their last three games and both victories in that stretch have come against the New York Islanders, bitter rival of tonight's opponent.
Atlanta hosted the Isles on Wednesday night and notched a dramatic victory, as Slava Kozlov scored the game-winner in the shootout to lift the Thrashers to the 4-3 victory.
Kozlov was the second shooter and he skated down the ice, went to the left and waited for Rick DiPietro to commit before lifting the puck over the prone goaltender. Kari Lehtonen then made a right pad save on a wrist shot from Miroslav Satan before Ilya Kovalchuk sealed the win with a shot between the pads of DiPietro.
Kovalchuk also had a goal in regulation while Marian Hossa added a goal and an assist for the Thrashers. Lehtonen finished the game with 30 saves.
Atlanta, which is 5-6-0 at the host this year, is playing the second of two straight at home this evening.
The Thrashers earned a 5-3 win over the visiting Rangers in the first meeting of the year back on October 18. Atlanta has won four straight and six of the last seven matchups in the regular season, but New York swept the Thrashers in the opening round of last year's playoffs.
