(My Sportsbook) - The
Boston Bruins will shoot for their first three-game winning streak since mid-October when they visit the
Atlanta Thrashers tonight at Philips Arena.
The Bruins have beaten Toronto and Buffalo in the first two tilts of a three- game road trip and a victory in this evening's test would give Boston three straight wins for the first time since a four-game win streak from October 12-20.
After notching Saturday's 2-1 victory in Toronto, the Bruins posted a 4-1 decision in Buffalo on Monday.
Marc Savard had a goal and an assist and Alex Auld turned aside 44 shots in the win over the Sabres.
The Bruins were minus top goaltender Tim Thomas, who is sidelined with a groin pull and backup Manny Fernandez, who is out with a herniated disc. That left rookie Tuukka Rask or the recently acquired Auld to fill in between the pipes.
Auld made his debut for Boston on Saturday, turning aside 25 shots in the victory at Toronto.
P.J. Axelsson, Peter Schaefer and Glen Metropolit also scored for the Bruins, who are 9-4-1 in their last 14 games. Milan Lucic had two assists in the victory.
Boston defenseman Dennis Wideman posted an assist to extend his point streak to seven games. Wideman has two goals and five assists in the longest current scoring streak by a blueliner.
The Bruins, who are 9-7-2 as the visiting team this year, will wrap up their road trip tonight and then begin a five-game homestand with Thursday's test against New Jersey.
Meanwhile, the Thrashers had a two-game winning streak halted with Saturday's setback in Washington. Nicklas Backstrom had a goal and two assists as the Capitals beat up Atlanta, 6-3, at Verizon Center.
Todd White scored twice while Bobby Holik added a goal for the Thrashers, who had also won three of four coming into the contest. Kari Lehtonen gave up six goals on 27 shots in the loss.
Marian Hossa notched an assist to register a point in his sixth consecutive game.
Tonight marks the first of two straight at home for Atlanta, which is just 6-6-0 as the host this season. The Thrashers will also welcome Toronto on Friday.
These two clubs are meeting for the first time this season after Atlanta took all four matchups last season. The Thrashers have won six in a row overall against the Bruins, including three in a row at home.
