Sakic tallied multiple points in three straight games to lead all players with six goals and a plus-7 rating. Other players considered for the award were St. Louis Blues goaltender Fred Brathwaite (3-0-0, 1.00 goals-against average, one shutout), Mighty Ducks of Anaheim left wing Paul Kariya (three goals, 4 assists in four games), Pittsburgh Penguins center Mario Lemieux (three goals, six assists in three games) and Tampa Bay Lightning right wing Martin St. Louis (three goals, three assists in four games.) Sakic has posted nine of Colorado's 31 goals this season and is only eight away of becoming the 31st player in history to score 500 goals. Colorado has just lost once in their first 11 games this season (4-1-4-2) and is second in the Northwest Division.
