Los Angeles Kings will try to get back on the winning track and continue their recent mastery of the San Jose Sharks when these teams play the first of five regular season games tonight at the Compaq Center.
The Kings, who are 6-2-1 in the past nine meetings against San Jose, fell to the red-hot Minnesota Wild on Monday night, 5-2.
Alexander Frolov and Jaroslav Modry netted goals for the Kings, while Jamie Storr, who filled in for starter Felix Potvin, made only 18 saves on 21 shots. Los Angeles lost for just the second time at home this season (3-2-1).
The Kings have scored at least one power play goal in five of their last six games. They went 1-for-6 last night with the man advantage.
The Sharks enter tonight's game off a 4-3 win over the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim on Sunday, ending a three-game skid.
Mike Ricci scored a pair of power-play goals, while Teemu Selanne and Owen Nolan also netted goals. Nolan, who has been bothered by a sore groin, logged a season-high 21:13 of ice time.
Evgeni Nabokov made 16 saves to earn the victory.
Sharks forward Niklas Sundstrom left the game after taking a stick to the eye. He didn't have serious damage and is expected to play tonight.
The Kings won the first four meetings with San Jose last season before the Sharks avoided the season sweep with a 3-1 win on April 13. Los Angeles has won three of five and seven of its last 11 in San Jose.
The Sharks are 1-3-0-0 at home this year, while the Kings are 3-1-1-1 on the road. LA begins a season-high, eight-game road trip tonight.
