Detroit, MI (My Sportsbook) - Marian Hossa recorded a natural hat trick as the
Atlanta Thrashers beat the Detroit Red Wings, 5-1, at Joe Louis Arena.
Eric Perrin and Slav Kozlov also scored while Kari Lehtonen finished the game with 46 saves for the Thrashers, who have won two straight.
"It was hard, but still it was so exciting," said Lehtonen. "I never played against Detroit before and just to see (Pavel) Datsyuk and (Henrik) Zetterberg, it's just amazing skill level, it was nice to be there. I think I had the best seat in the house to watch those guys do their tricks and I was lucky enough to make the saves tonight."
Atlanta won for the first time in five tries in Detroit and has won two straight over the Red Wings after losing the first seven games in the series.
The Thrashers' Ilya Kovalchuk finished the game with an assist and now has 63 points, which is tied with Tampa Bay's Vincent Lecavalier and Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby for the top spot in the league.
Niklas Kronvall scored the lone goal for the Red Wings, who have tied a season-high with three straight losses. Chris Osgood started in net, but was pulled after allowing four goals on 17 shots. Dominik Hasek finished the game between the pipes and allowed one goal on eight shots.
"We were playing so great for so long," said Osgood. "You don't want to say it was bound to happen, we were hoping to keep it going the whole year, but things like this happen every year and we'll be ready to bounce back."
Atlanta grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first period on a pair of goals from Hossa.
On the power play, Atlanta gained control of the puck on a right circle faceoff. Hossa received the puck along the deep right boards, bulled his way out front and slipped a shot into the left corner of the net at the 7:33 mark.
Hossa got the second goal as he raced into the Detroit end and from the left circle snapped a wrister on the fly that beat Osgood to the glove side with 5:38 left in the frame.
Lehtonen made 11 saves in the frame to keep Detroit off the board.
Hossa completed the natural hat trick just 1:14 into the second period. On the power play, Todd White threw a pass from the left boards to the slot where Hossa gathered the puck and fired a wrister into the right corner of the net.
The Thrashers continued the power play onslaught and made it a 4-0 game a bit over six minutes later. Kevin Doell threw a shot on net from the low left side that was stopped, but Perrin jammed the puck past Osgood from in front for his eighth goal of the season.
That was it for Osgood as Hasek took over between the pipes.
Lehtonen was busy in the second period and had to make 20 stops in the frame to keep the Red Wings from scoring.
Detroit ruined Lehtonen's shutout bid with 6:18 left in the game. After Lehtonen made three spectacular saves, the puck came out to the slot where Niklas Kronvall blasted it past Lehtonen's glove.
Kozlov got the final goal of the game with 59.7 seconds left as his slapper from the left circle beat Hasek for his 13th goal of the season.
