Boston, MA (My Sportsbook) - The Boston Red Sox announced Tuesday that pitcher Alan Embree has signed a two-year contract with an option for 2005. In 2002, Embree went 4-6 with a 2.03 ERA and two saves in 68 combined relief appearances with the Red Sox and the San Diego Padres. For Boston last year, he posted a 1-2 record with a 2.97 ERA and two saves in 32 relief outings. The lefthander joined the Red Sox on June 23, 2002 in a trade with the Padres. Boston also acquired minor league righthander Andy Shibilo in exchange for minor league pitchers Brad Baker and Dan Giese. The 32-year-old Embree is a nine-year veteran, also spending time with Cleveland, Atlanta, Arizona, San Francisco and the Chicago White Sox.
