Oakland, CA (My Sportsbook) - Oakland Athletics reserve infielder Olmedo Saenz had surgery Wednesday to repair his right Achilles' tendon, which he ruptured Tuesday in the eighth inning of Oakland's 7-5 loss to Minnesota in Game 1 of the American League Division Series. According to the team, Saenz's surgery was "successful." He will wear a cast for six weeks before undergoing physical therapy. Saenz hit a slow roller down the third base line in Tuesday's game that ended up going foul. However, he ran hard toward first base and suffered the injury. Randy Velarde took over the at-bat for Saenz and singled. Saenz entered the game in the sixth as a pinch-hitter and remained in the contest to play first base. He missed 23 games in September with a sprained left middle finger. The Athletics are not permitted to replace Saenz on the roster for the remainder of this playoff round. If they advance to the ALCS, they could make a change.
