Wisconsin shrugs off pesky HawkeyesMy Sportsbook - Online Sportsbook, Casino & Racebook
Iowa City, IA (My Sportsbook) - Marcus Landry had 16 points and six rebounds to lead the eighth-ranked Wisconsin Badgers past the Iowa Hawkeyes, 60-54.
Brian Butch chipped in 12 points for Wisconsin (19-3, 9-1 Big Ten), which has won three contests in a row after dropping a game at Purdue, 60-56, on January 26. Tony Freeman scored 18 points for Iowa (11-13, 4-7), which has lost two of its last three. Cyrus Tate added 15 points and eight boards, while Seth Gorney contributed 10 points. The Hawkeyes surprised the Badgers early on, taking a 17-12 lead on a Gorney jumper with just over six minutes to go before intermission. However, a three from Butch followed by five straight points from Jason Bohannon gave Wisconsin the lead back, 20-19. But, Iowa would outscore their opponent 10-6 to end the half and head into its locker room with a three-point lead. Wisconsin took the lead back early in the second half, going ahead 35-34 on a Michael Flowers three-pointer with 16:26 on the clock. The lead went back-and-forth until five straight Badger points gave Wisconsin a 48-44 advantage 11 minutes later. Landry hit a pair from the foul line and Butch drained a three to complete the mini-run. A Justin Johnson trey brought Iowa within one, but four striaght Bohannon foul shots gave Wisconsin a five-point lead, 52-47, with just over two minutes to play. A pair of Tate free throws and a layup bookended a Flowers layup and brought the Hawkeyes within three points with 1:32 on the clock. Bohannon was fouled on Wisconsin's ensuing possession and hit both shots, but Jeff Peterson would answer back with a huge three from the top of the key to bring Iowa within two, 56-54, with 25.6 ticks remaining. Joe Krabbenhoft was immediately fouled on the inbounds and hit both shots from the stripe to make it a four-point game with 21.8 showing on the clock. Iowa was unable to close the gap any further as Wisconsin earned its ninth conference victory of the season. Game Notes Wisconsin shot 43.5 percent from the field, while Iowa connected on only 35.4 percent of its shots...Flowers and Bohannon each had nine points and Krabbenhoft grabbed eight rebounds...Iowa will play at Minnesota on Saturday.
