Atlanta, GA (My Sportsbook) - Roberto Luongo stopped 27 shots as the Vancouver Canucks downed the Atlanta Thrashers, 2-1, at Philips Arena.

Daniel Sedin and Alexandre Burrows each scored a goal for the Canucks, who had dropped eight of their last nine coming into the game.

"The difference was we were able to get a power-play goal," said Vancouver coach Alain Vigneault. "Then we shut them down when we had a power play opportunity at the end. It was a hard fought game by both teams. I'm happy with the win."

Pascal Dupuis scored the lone goal while Kari Lehtonen stopped 26 shots in the loss for the Thrashers, who have dropped their last two games.

"The last eight games we have done a good job in our zone," said Atlanta coach Don Waddell. "We've done a solid job in our end. Now we have to capitalize on opportunities in the opposing end. If we take care of our divisional games, we should be in good shape at the end of the season."

Trailing, 1-0, the Canucks tied he game 6:32 into the third period. On the power play, Mattias Ohlund threw a shot on net that Lehtonen stopped, but Sedin jammed in the rebound from down low for his 24th goal of the year.

With 8:46 to play, Vancouver grabbed the lead. Taylor Pyatt skated the puck behind the net and sent it out front where Burrows took the feed and wristed a backhander into the net.

Atlanta had its chances to tie the game, including a power play during which the team threw several shots on net, but Luongo turned aside everything thrown his way.

Neither side got on the board in the first period as Atlanta had seven shots and Vancouver eight.

The Thrashers took a 1-0 lead at the 7:58 mark of the second period. Tobias Enstrom blasted a one-timer from the left circle that Luongo stopped, but Dupuis was on the doorstep and tapped the rebound into the net.

Vancouver had nine shots on net in the second period, but Lehtonen turned them all aside.

Vancouver returns home to face Colorado on Saturday...The Thrashers host Tampa Bay on Saturday...This was the first time Vancouver played in Atlanta since March 16, 2002...Vancouver went 1-for-4 on the power play while Atlanta was scoreless in its three chances.
