Naples, FL (My Sportsbook) - Tom Jenkins fired an eight-under 64 Saturday to take a two-stroke lead after two rounds of the ACE Group Classic.
Jenkins, a seven-time winner on the Champions Tour, completed 36 holes at 12- under-par 132.
There is a logjam of players behind Jenkins. Five players -- Nick Price (66), Scott Hoch (66), Ron Streck (66), Gary Koch (67) and Peter Jacobsen (68) -- are tied for second place at 10-under-par 134.
Jenkins got off to a quick start with a six-foot birdie putt at the first. He made it two straight with a two-foot birdie putt on two. The 60-year-old parred his next at Quail West Golf & Country Club before catching fire.
After missing a 10-foot birdie try on seven, Jenkins dropped his second to 12 feet at the eighth. He made that birdie then drained a 20-footer for birdie on 10. He made two straight with a 10-foot birdie putt on 11 to move to minus- nine.
Jenkins ran home a 28-foot eagle putt on the par-five 13th to jump into the lead at 11-under. He followed that with a six-foot birdie putt on 14.
He parred the 15th before faltering to his lone bogey on the par-four 16th. Jenkins pushed his lead back to two as he made birdie from just outside seven feet at the last.
"I made a lot of threes today. At one point, I was thinking of (shooting) my age," admitted Jenkins. "It was a good, solid round."
Jenkins leads for the 11th time after 36 holes. He went on to win four of those events, including the 2006 SAS Championship, when the final round was washed out by rain.
Price collected three birdies on the front nine to turn at minus-seven. He birdied the 12th and 13th before a three-putt bogey on the par-four 14th. Price responded with a 20-foot birdie putt on 15 and made it two straight as his 13-footer for birdie on 16 found the bottom of the cup.
"I played well last Sunday and I felt like I got some momentum and then played well in both Pro-Ams," Price admitted. "I hit some good positive shots on the front nine which gave me some confidence."
Hoch collected back-to-back birdies from the sixth. Around the turn, he ran off four birdies in a five-hole span to jump to 10-under. Hoch dropped a shot on the 16th, but recovered that with a seven-foot birdie putt on 18.
Streck's lone front-nine birdie came at the third, but he also eagled the ninth to make the turn at seven-under. After a birdie on 13, Streck birdied 16 and 17 to grab a share of second.
Koch got off to a fast start with three birdies over his first four holes. He cooled off with nine straight pars before a birdie on 14 got him to minus- nine. Koch also birdied the last to finish at 10-under.
Jacobsen birdied two and three to tie for the lead. He fell one back as he parred the next two, cut regained a share of the lead with a birdie on the par-four sixth.
After dropping a shot on 10, Jacobsen birdied the 11th and 13th to get to minus-10. He parred the last five holes to end there.
Loren Roberts was one of four first-round co-leaders with Bruce Fleisher, Tom Kite and Fuzzy Zoeller. Roberts managed a two-under 70 Saturday. He was joined in seventh place at nine-under-par 135 by Chip Beck (66).
Fleisher, Bruce Lietzke, Graham Marsh, Joe Ozaki and Jeff Sluman are one shot back at minus-eight.
Kite (72) is tied for 14th at minus-seven, while Zoeller stumbled to a one- over 73 and shares 21st place at six-under-par 138.
