Seattle, WA (My Sportsbook) - The
San Antonio Spurs target their ninth straight win this evening when they begin a brief two-game road trip against the Seattle SuperSonics at Key Arena.
On Wednesday, Tim Duncan notched his league-leading 21st double-double with 30 points and 13 rebounds to lead San Antonio to a 73-70 victory over the Toronto Raptors.
Duncan also had five assists and four blocks, while Tony Parker added 16 points for the Spurs, who have not lost since falling to the Los Angeles Lakers back on December 3.
In addition to the stellar play of Duncan, defense has played a huge part in the team's recent success. In six of the eight wins during their streak, the Spurs have allowed fewer than 80 points, while surrendering an average of 69.3 in the last four games.
San Antonio, which will close its trek in Portland on Saturday, have won four straight on the road and is 6-7 away from home this season.
Seattle enters tonight's contest riding a two-game losing streak after dropping a 99-98 decision to the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday. Ronald Murray and Rashard Lewis each scored 19 points in the losing effort for the SuperSonics, who fell for the sixth time in their last eight games.
Seattle trailed by two at 97-95 until Rashard Lewis drove to the basket, converted over Denver's Nene and was fouled. He then made his one shot from the line to give Seattle the lead with 10.8 seconds left to play.
Carmelo Anthony, though, came up big and converted the game-winning bucket down low following a timeout. Antonio Daniels then drove the length of the court attempting to re-claim the lead for Seattle, but Marcus Camby got a piece of the shot for his seventh block of the game to preserve the victory for the Nuggets.
Seattle is 6-6 at home this season.
The Spurs took three of four from the Sonics last season and have won 10 of 14 and 14 of the last 21 meetings. San Antonio has also had some success in Seattle, where they have own four of their last seven.
