=== Carolina Hurricanes Team Report - December 19 === (My Sportsbook) - Rod Brind'Amour scored with 70 seconds left in regulation and Jeff O'Neill added the game-winner with 2:46 remaining in overtime to lift Carolina to a 2-1 win over Pittsburgh at the RBC Center. Kevin Weekes made 10 saves for the Hurricanes, who snapped a two-game losing streak in their first game under new head coach Peter Laviolette. Laviolette replaced Paul Maurice, who was fired Monday. Carolina has just two wins in its last seven games (2-2-1-2). Carolina scored with the extra skater in the third period to force overtime. Brind'Amour, positioned near the left post, tipped in a pass by Josef Vasicek from behind the net. Then in overtime, O'Neill posted his first goal since November 18 for Carolina. He hooked up with Ron Francis on a give-and-go to get goalie Sebastien Caron out of position. Before taking the Carolina job, the 39-year-old Laviolette spent two seasons as coach of the Islanders after a successful stint in the American Hockey League. As a rookie benchman in 2001-02, Laviolette led New York to its first playoff berth since 1994. However, after his sophomore campaign, which ended with a first-round loss to top-seeded Ottawa, he was let loose in favor of current coach Steve Stirling. Carolina, 2-1-3-1 in its last seven home games, will visit Boston on Saturday.
