Denver, CO (My Sportsbook) - Colorado Avalanche captain Joe Sakic participated in his first practice with the club Tuesday since being injured in Colorado's 3-2 loss at San Jose on November 30. The center underwent hernia surgery on December 28 and has missed a total of 36 games. "We don't really have a timetable," said Sakic, commenting on a potential return date. "We're going to see how it progresses and if things get better, you never know. But right now there's no real date. The last couple of days I've been going pretty hard. Obviously it's still tight, but you have to work through that." In 24 games this season, Sakic has scored seven goals and has 22 points. Paul Stastny was also on the ice Tuesday, and despite missing the last 14 contests (appendectomy/groin), remains the club's leading scorer with 49 points in 46 games. The Avalanche open a five-game road trip Wednesday at Anaheim. "We expect them both to play at some point on the trip," said Colorado head coach Joel Quenneville. "Paul's close and Joe, hopefully after a couple days of practice, we'll get a clear indication."
