Toronto, ON (My Sportsbook) - Alex Steen scored the game-winning goal early in the third period to help the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 3-1 win over the Atlanta Thrashers at Air Canada Centre.

Steen, who earlier on Saturday signed a two-year contract extension, added an assist while Nik Antropov also had a goal and an assist for the Maple Leafs, who have won three of their last four games. Vesa Toskala made 24 saves in the win.

"Overall it was a good game," said Antropov. "In the first period we had a lot of shots but not much to show for it. The second and third period we dominated them."

Mats Sundin scored in possibly his last game for the Maple Leafs. Sundin's name has been mentioned in several rumors ahead of Tuesday's NHL trading deadline.

Mark Recchi scored the lone goal, while Kari Lehtonen stopped 22 shots for the Thrashers, who have dropped their last three games.

"I feel frustrated cause I thought we played a good game," said Atlanta's Marian Hossa. "We took some bad penalties that cost us the game."

With the score tied in the third period, the Maple Leafs took a 2-1 lead at the 2:53 mark of the frame as Steen's quick backhander from the right circle beat Lehtonen to the short side.

Toronto padded its advantage at the 12:44 mark as Antropov's fast wrister from the left circle got past Lehtonen on the stick side for a 3-1 lead.

"I just shot it at the net cause it was the end of my shift," said Antropov about the goal.

Toskala made a nice pad save on an Ilya Kovalchuk redirection with under three minutes to play to help Toronto hang on for the win.

The Thrashers got the only goal of the first period while on the power play. Hossa had the puck in the slot and threw a shot on net that Toskala stopped, but Recchi was parked at the right side and slammed home the rebound at the 11:54 mark.

Lehtonen stopped 12 shots in the first period.

Toronto scored a power-play goal just 3:33 into the second period to tie the contest. Kyle Wellwood had the disc at the left point and swept it to the low left side where Sundin one-timed it past Lehtonen for his 25th goal of the season.

Toskala kept Atlanta from scoring in the second period with seven saves.
