Pittsburgh, PA (My Sportsbook) - The Pittsburgh Penguins added a huge piece to their playoff push just minutes before Tuesday's trade deadline, as they acquired right wing Marian Hossa from the
Atlanta Thrashers.
Along with Hossa, Pittsburgh also gets left wing Pascal Dupuis in exchange for NHL forwards Colby Armstrong and Erik Christensen, prospect Angelo Esposito and a first-round pick in the 2008 draft.
Hossa has been an offensive force in recent years, scoring 80 or more points in each of the last four seasons. He will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this campaign and had been unhappy in Atlanta.
The 29-year-old Czech has 26 goals and 30 assists in 60 games with the Thrashers this season. Hossa registered 248 points (108 goals, 140 assists) in 222 games with Atlanta.
Hossa was originally a first-round pick (12th overall) by Ottawa in the 1997 draft and stayed with the franchise until he was dealt to Atlanta in the deal that made Dany Heatley a Senator.
In 689 career games, Hossa has notched 296 goals and 342 assists.
Dupuis has 10 goals and five assists in 62 games with the Thrashers this year and has 81 goals and 81 assists in 419 career contests with Minnesota, Atlanta and the New York Rangers.
The Thrashers get a pair of young forwards in Armstrong, 25, and the 24-year- old Christensen.
Armstrong has played in 54 games this season and has nine goals and 15 assists. Christensen has 20 points (9g, 11a) in 49 contests.
Esposito was the 20th overall pick in last year's draft and that was considered late for the 19-year-old forward who at one point was considered to be the leading candidate to go first overall. He is currently playing with the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
