Edmonton, ON (My Sportsbook) - The Edmonton Oilers have placed captain Ethan Moreau and defenseman Ladislav Smid on injured reserve. Moreau will miss the rest of the season with a fractured left leg, while Smid has missed the last three games with a sprained right ankle and knee. Moreau suffered the injury on February 24 in the closing seconds of Edmonton's 3-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche, while Smid was hurt during practice on February 21. The oft-injured Moreau ends the year with just five goals and four assists in 25 games since returning to the Oilers lineup on December 29 at Minnesota. He missed the team's first 38 games of the season after suffering a fracture in his left foot in a pre-season game at Calgary. Moreau also missed most of the 2006-07 season after dislocating his shoulder. Smid has four assists and 50 penalty minutes in 51 games this season.
