Portland, OR (My Sportsbook) - The
Minnesota Timberwolves will try and set a franchise record for consecutive road wins tonight when they travel to the Rose Garden to face the Portland Trail Blazers.
On Tuesday, Latrell Sprewell scored a game-high 31 points to cap a triumphant return to Madison Square Garden, as the Timberwolves beat the New York Knicks 98-92. Sprewell's three-pointer with 1:14 left gave Minnesota a firm cushion at 94-89, as Minnesota ran off 11 of the final 14 points to rally for the win.
Sam Cassell also poured in 31 points while dishing out five assists for the Timberwolves, who have won six straight and nine of their last 10 overall. Kevin Garnett notched his 22nd double-double of the year with 22 points and 13 rebounds.
The Timberwolves have also been an unfriendly guest of late, winning six straight contests on the opposition's floor. Another victory tonight would break Minnesota's franchise record road-winning streak set in January 2000.
Sprewell, who scored the most points at the Garden by an ex-Knick since Walt Frazier scored 28 for the Cleveland Cavaliers, was fined $25,000 on Wednesday for his emotional outbursts at MSG, which included a profanity-laced tirade at Knicks' chairman James Dolan and screaming at the team's bench throughout the game.
A win tonight by Minnesota would be its longest winning streak since a seven- game tear from February 19 to March 2, 2003.
The Timberwolves, who will be playing the second leg of a three-game road trip, have reeled off wins in seven of their last eight on the road and 11 of their last 13 away from home. Minny is 11-4 as the guests this season.
Portland, meanwhile, also comes into tonight's contest on a winning note after Zach Randolph scored 27 points, pulled down nine rebounds and dished out five assists to lead the Trail Blazers to a 97-88 win over Dallas.
Damon Stoudamire notched 16 points and handed out seven assists for Portland, which won for the second time in three games. Jeff McInnis added 14 points and posted a season-high 10 assists.
The Trail Blazers have won six of their last eight at home and are 13-4 at the Rose Garden this season.
Minnesota took three of four from the Blazers last season and has won seven of the last 10 meetings. The T-Wolves have also won four of their last five in Portland, but have dropped 16 of their last 22 there.
