Uniondale, NY (My Sportsbook) - Craig Anderson saved 53 shots for his first shutout of the season and third of his career, as the
Florida Panthers earned a 1-0 win over the
New York Islanders.
David Booth's 19th goal of the season was all that was needed for the Panthers, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Olli Jokinen and Nathan Horton had the assists on the only goal of the game.
"It just seemed like they were throwing everything at the net," said Anderson. "They weren't trying to make anything pretty, they were just going to the net, jam the net, get rebounds and we had a couple of guys that put their face on the line and block the shots. It was terrific to see."
Despite stopping 29-of-30 shots, Wade Dubielewicz received the loss for the Islanders, who have dropped four of five. New York remained with 69 points, in 10th place in the Eastern Conference, five behind Philadelphia for eighth.
After being hit hard in the first period, New York defenseman Bruno Gervais and was forced to leave the game with a thigh contusion and a concussion.
"It's frustrating but you have to look at the bright side, you know," said Islanders foward Bill Guerin. "We had the puck in their end a lot, we generated a lot of shots...their goalie played a good game."
The Panthers scored the only goal of the game halfway through the first period. Booth picked up a loose puck in between the faceoff circles and ripped a wrist shot that went over the shoulder of Dubielewicz.
Both goaltenders were stellar in the second period. Dubielewicz saved all eight shots that he saw, while Anderson stopped 29-of-29 shots that came his way from the Islanders. The 29 shots the Islanders took set a franchise record for shots in a period.
Neither team was able to light the lamp in the third period. Dubielewicz stopped all 11 shots and Anderson turned aside 10 shots he faced to complete the shutout.
