(My Sportsbook) - The
Colorado Avalanche will aim for their seventh straight victory tonight, when they visit the
Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center for the finale of a home-and-home series.
The Avalanche notched their sixth consecutive win Saturday afternoon against the visiting Stars. It's the longest winning streak for Colorado since rattling off eight victories in a row during the 2005-06 campaign.
Colorado comes into Sunday's action locked into a three-way tie for first place in the Northwest Division with Calgary and Minnesota. All three teams have 80 points and are just two ahead of fourth-place Vancouver in the highly competitive division.
Minnesota hosts San Jose earlier today, while the Flames are off until Monday's home test against St. Louis.
Colorado notched a 3-1 decision over the visiting Stars on Saturday as Andrew Brunette scored the game winning goal and Peter Forsberg picked up two assists for his first points since returning to the NHL.
Scott Hannan and Paul Stastny each lit the lamp for the Avalanche, while Jose Theodore picked up the win after stopping 25- of-26 shots.
Forsberg had been kept off the scoresheet in his first two games since signing with Colorado, but the Swedish forward came through with a multi-point game in his third test of the season.
Antti Miettinen scored the only goal for the Stars, who have lost three games in a row. It's the longest losing streak for Dallas since dropping four straight from December 31-January 5.
Marty Turco received the loss after allowing two goals on 27 shots for Dallas, which is 13-5-0 since the All-Star break.
Dallas has 87 points and missed an opportunity to extend its lead over San Jose, which has 86 points, for first place in the Pacific Division. The Sharks can take over sole possession of first place today with a win in Minnesota and a regulation loss by the Stars.
Colorado is 2-1 against the Stars this year, but Dallas has still taken eight of 10 and nine of the last 12 meetings between the teams. A victory today would give the Avs their first season-series win over the Stars since the 2003-04 campaign.
